Don't Look Now, but Clovis West is Peaking Again

Yes the rough and tumble boys of Clovis West were running on all cylinders on Friday night, as the Golden Eagles flew over the Bears of Buchanan, 42-7, at the BEC in Clovis. The offense, defense, special teams, and overall focus of Coach Jim Hartigan's troops left very little to be desired from Eagle fans. The running and passing games of Beau Sweeney were fun to watch as the heralded junior is working his way into the scheme of things, especially as the Eagles are unfolding a passing attack. Meanwhile workhorse Matt Jelmini continues his all round play with exciting runs from scrimmage through holes provided by the stronger and getting stronger offensive line of the Eagles. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles linebacking corps, led by middle backer Jordan Ribera, have really got a plan to to make opposing runners wish they might have gone out for the cross-country team instead. The Bears can usually answer that challenge with their outstanding tailback, Lampford Mark, but he even had a rough time getting much yardage (58 yards, lowest by far this season) against the Eagle defense. Buchanan played tough, but after a while the Eagles just wore them down.

The point is that this had to be one of the best games for Eagle fans to watch this year as there weren't very many mistakes in what looked like an excellent game plan. The TRAC is a very tough conference indeed and it's still not easy to predict who is going to be at the top at the end of the season, but Clovis West sure looked good on Friday night at Buchanan.

Notes: Next up for the Eagles is the the most anticipated game of the year (look for that phrase to be used a lot this year), as they take on the Timberwolves of Clovis East this week at Lamonica......Great teams, coaches, players, fans, bands, and football fever in the air at Barstow and Fowler in Clovis....Our Players of the Game awards this week, went to Jordan "Ribbs" Ribera for Clovis West, and defensive back, Seth Wilson, who put forth a great effort for the Bears........Did you catch the COS, Reedley game on the tube this week? What a game! Final score 33-31, Giants over the Reedley Tigers in a game that had a huge crowd at the Mineral King Bowl in Visalia, on their feet yelling for most of the night. The teams looked like two all-star teams in serious battle. More of the same will be seen again this week at COS comes up to Ratcliffe Stadium in Fresno to watch the National JC Player of the Week, quarterback Andre Sloan El, lead his team in to play the
Rams for first place in the Valley Conference..... FCC coach Tony Cavillia has his Rams ready and both he and Giant coach Curtis Allen both are looking for a big time time in a matchup between two of the top rated JC's in California. Kickoff is at 7pm on Saturday. Make it if you can, if not, catch us on KJEO TV Sports ch 32, KGMC TV ch 43 and Comcast ch 10, Charter Cable ch 15 in Porterville, and Comcast ch 14 in Fresno. Check the Fresno Bee and your local listings for times and dates......Have a great week. Hope your team wins...
