It's Playoff Time, Bugatee, Bugatee, Shoup

Seems like just the other day color commentator Fred Clark and I were saying that we couldn't wait for the 2005 high school football season to get underway, and now the regular season is over already. As these next four weeks unwind, the Valley Champions from each division will arrive at the top of the mountain and then bring the iron back to their school..

Heading into the CIF playoffs, the number one seeds are Clovis East (Div I), Tulare (Div II), El Diamonte (Div III), Immanuel (Div IV), and Fowler (Div V). There are many capable and hungry teams all around with an eye on that championship in each division and you have to believe there are going to be some upsets and dark horses. Many teams are peaking right at the right time and it's going to be exciting. Let's see what happens........ Meanwhile, over at Cocola Broadcasting and Comcast we are
looking over the schedules to bring you the best games we can as the weeks unfold. If you would like to suggest any games, just call us at 435-7000 and let us know where you think the best games might be.........Call us or log on to our kjeotv.com website and let us know, and while you are at it, register for our I-Pod drawing that is coming up soon and we will be announcing winners at the end if the playoffs......

In our last televised regular season game, Clovis West and Clovis High put on a great show. The rivalry between the two schools is great and that has produced some wonderful football games through the years. This game was no exception as both teams supplied a whole bunch of heart and exciting football. Both teams had electrifying touch downs, one each, as Kyle Duffy ran for a 67 yard TD on the Golden Eagles third play from scrimmage at the start of the game. Clovis had a picture perfect pass/run TD with
Brett Behlen hitting Matt Lindsay for a 57 yarder in which Lindsay put a great move on the DB and then outraced the Eagles defensive backfield 57 yards into the end zone. With both schools get field goals along the way (Scot Saunders for Clovis, Ben Milam for Clovis West) the score was tied at 10-10 well into the 4th quarter, when a Clovis fumble inside their own 20 yard line gave the Eagles possession of the ball with under 3 minutes to go. After a first down on the 6 yard line, things looked pretty bleak for the Cougars, but they made a courageous goal line stand and it was 4th and less then a yard to go and all eyes were on Kyle Duffy who had run for over 170 yards on the evening. But noooooooo, the Cougars line held and Clovis took over. Then with the clock winding down, quarterback Behlen stepped just over the goal line as he went back to pass, but a great rush by the Eagles forced Behlen to try to avoid the 2pt safety and he had to do it lightning quick and he threw the ball out of bounds and was called for the intentional grounding and when that happens in the end zone, it's a safety and it was the end of the road for the Cougars and Clovis West won, 12-10. It was a great defensive play that won the game for the Eagles, after the Cougars had a great defensive stand on the previous series......

Those rivalry games are awesome. Doesn't matter who is playing. Bullard and Hoover play the Battle of Barstow every year and it's always fun (more for Bullard this year 55-26 but it was an exciting game). Sierra went and upset Yosemite, previously undefeated Yosemite, in their great rivalry game tradition. ...Hats of to Coach Jo Jo Reyes and his staff over at Roosevelt on their big win over the Fresno High Warriors in another long tradition rivalry game, 23-14 in which the Rough Riders took home the Pig Bowl trophy. It was the Riders first win of the year and it was big in the Pig..............Have a good week. I hope your team wins in the playoffs. We will be announcing where we will be televising our first game of this year's playoffs by Wednesday.... Peace
