Rugged Rogers Rolls and Rumbles as Bullard moves to 5-0

I went to a Fresno Fuego soccer game at Chuckchansi Park in the Spring this year and I remember how beautiful the Park looked. They had covered up the baseball infield with grass and the field looked just great. Big league all the way. The rumor was, among the media people, that the powers that be were going to do the same for the high school football season - cover up the baseball infield which would not only look great, but because of the angle they would be able to do, it would be so much better for the football fans in the stands as they would be so much closer to the action. Well, I guess it was just a rumor because it didn't happen and that's too bad because Chuckchansi Park, despite all its beauty and feel, is just not a great place to watch a football game. They got the big video screen up on the scoreboard, but it just isn't enough in my opinion.

Friday night saw Bullard stretch out to their 5th win without a loss with another win over a Tri-River AC, as their magical season continues. Clifton Rogers once again came up with big yards and big plays for the Knights of head coach Don Arax, rushing for 179 yards and scoring three more touchdowns in the 27-20 Bullard win. The Knights also got a steady leadership performance from quarterback Phillip Brandt, and another good outing from sophomore Caleb Justice on both sides of the ball. The Knights are having one of the best turnaround seasons in valley football memory, from last year's dismal 2-8 record to undefeated status so far this season. True they have the stars in Rogers, Brandt, Justice, and Evan Klein (at fullback/blocking back in place of the injured all-star, Chris Nelson), but the Knight are getting outstanding play from their toughies in the lines. Terrence Gilbert, Kyle Larson, Mark Goldbeck, and also in the defensive backfield. Central's Grizzlies, stayed with the Knights behind QB Brian Turner, and speedsters, Brian Easter, Rakim Dawkins, and Brandon Howard, but Evan Klein's touchdown for the Knights put the game out of reach and the Grizzlies fell to their first defeat, and are now 4-1, as they get ready to play Clovis West this week at the BEC. Bullard is off to Oakland this week to play a tough Oakland Tech team, from the Oakland Conference.
