The seesaw battle between the rivals gave the fans lots to cheer about. Kerman got outstanding play from Carillo, running backs and receivers including our KJEO Player of the Game, Alex Ramirez, Juan Gonzales, and Prince York. The Lion’s fans were also treated to some heroics by Theodore Furnish, who carried the ball (along with an assortment of Coalinga Horned Toads), to key first downs at crucial times during the comeback. The 5’11”, 250-pound Furnish also made some key defensive plays to stop Coalinga drives.

Coalinga, despite losing running back/linebacker Sal Solorio, to injury in the first half, maintained the lead into the fourth quarter. Also when Solorio was injured, the Horned Toads kicking game was gone and that too was a factor. Coalinga was led by veteran QB Moses Flores, and running backs, Joseph Filipe, Cody Wells (also a KJEO Player of the Game award winner) who played well on offense, defense, and special teams, and Carlos Hernandez who was brilliant at wide receiver, including an amazing one-handed catch for a touchdown that got the Horned Toads backing the lead.
